Chen, who grew up in La Jolla, is now artist in residence at a Presbyterian Church in New York City. She holds a bachelors and masters degree from Juilliard.
During a Fulbright year in Taiwan, she became familiar with native melodies and has translated some of them into compositions for the organ. After a concert at Disney Hall, the L.A. Times wrote, “All organists, of course, are power-trippers. And though all smiles, Chen bulks up and raises the volume and, rattles the seats with the mightiest of them. But not all organists have her delicacy as well as her ability to paint a line with a poetic brush stroke before -- or after -- she lets up.”
There is no admission charge for the concert, but a free-will offering will be received.
